Brielle, a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on June 8, 2022, at just 22 years old. Given her age and history of ideal health, the news was more than shocking.
I was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in September 2014 when I was six years old. I relapsed three additional times between 2014 and 2021. I had a bone marrow transplant in 2020 during COVID-19 and relapsed again six months after the transplant. In July 2021, I received huCART-meso cells at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
On October 19, 2018, after complaining about excruciating pain in his back, we took our 16-year-old son Jack to see the pediatrician. The doctor checked him out and told us to immediately get him to the Children's Hospital of Colorado and go to the 7th floor to see Dr. Maloney.
Vera was diagnosed on July 23, 2022. Her symptoms started as typical flu-like, lethargic, loss of appetite, and a fever. After three days of a fever and no one in the house showing symptoms, we took her to the pediatrician and were told she likely had a virus and to return in a week or so if symptoms didn’t subside.

In 2001, I was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) at age three and survived thanks to three and a half years of intense treatment at the City of Hope Los Angeles. I am now 25 years old, a college graduate, and working for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), hoping to give back to those who helped save my life.
