Carol

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL)

I have been told that my story is rare, so I would like to see if there is anyone who has had the same experience. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM) in February 2023. I started chemo treatment in March 2023 and continued through May 2024. In February 2024, I noticed some changes happening to my body. I was losing weight, losing hair, had extremely dry skin, and had less and less energy. When I went for my PET scan in May 2024 to see if I had lesions in my spine from the MM, I was told they were completely gone, and I was most likely in remission. However, I had lymph nodes that "lit" up in my neck, chest, and abdomen. I then went for a bone marrow biopsy that showed no MM, but I now have stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). My local oncologist had never seen this happen in a patient. I also am seeing an MM specialist in New York City, and he only knew of one patient who went from MM to HL.

I have had eight blood transfusions, been hospitalized for five days, and have started a new chemo and immunotherapy treatment. The oncologists are hopeful, and I am trying to be strong, but I know I have a long road ahead of me. I just would like to know if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them.
