AML Survivor

In 2015, I started having issues with being able to fight a sinus infection. Several months later, my doctor ordered me to have a bone marrow test and I was diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Just days after my diagnosis, I started chemotherapy. It was the worst point in my life, I lost my hair, appetite, taste buds and my strength. The doctors encouraged me to get up and walk around the floor as much as I could to build my strength back.

Months later, I had another bone marrow test and I received the best news, I was in remission! I came home for a short stay and waited to find out if my sister was a match for my bone marrow transplant. I got the news that she was a 10 for 10 match! I stayed in the hospital for 100 days to fully recover from the procedure.

Today, I am home after having my life on hold for a year and I live everyday as though today is my “someday”. I am gaining back my strength every single day. Without all the support of my family and friends I would not be here. Thank you for letting me share my story because today is my someday!
