Michelle

acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)

I'm Michelle, and I'm a childhood cancer survivor. I'm going to be 43 in a few days. I was 2½ when I had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) through age 5, going through it all. I received experimental chemos and radiations. I was two out of 45 children who lived. The rest died. I have relapsed over six or more times ― two leukemias, and the rest were all different cancers. I recently got tested genetically at O.H.S.U., and I have what they call a mutated gene. I forget the name, but the good thing is I will be celebrating 43 years in a few days, and I hope one day to write books and be out there speaking and telling my story. I have been fighting the systems and everything to get to this point, and I hope to give people hope to keep fighting and to never quit. I even got SSI after so much fighting with the medical and everything. I go to the Light The Night (LTN) walks as much as I can and the picnic to celebrate and be an inspiration, and when I tell my story, I get good love back. It's been a journey for many years.
