Leukemia Survivor

In July 2014, my defibrillator fired while I was at a diner. Upon testing at the hospital I found out I have acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Much to my surprise, it was discovered by a simple blood test.

Everything started happening really fast. Within 24 hours, I was a hospital inpatient and on a heavy regimen of chemotherapy for seven weeks. While I was in the hospital, my wife researched this form of leukemia and contacted The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for guidance. They were very helpful so she joined the Light The Night Walk last September. I continued treatment through March 2015, at which time I was determined to be in remission. Six months later, I still remain in remission.

Had it not been for the clinical studies and advancements funded through LLS I would not be here today. We are blessed and thankful and continue our support to LLS. Hoping others can feel this blessed with their Walk with leukemia.
