NHL Survivor

In June 2014, I dislocated my knee. I saw the doctor and after an MRI and an X-ray was told I needed physical therapy and rest. I did both and my knee saw a slight improvement but on New Year's Day 2015, while playing with my children, I dislocated my knee again.

Being as it was the New Year, I decided that I would make my health my focus and decided to see a specialist to deal with the knee. When I went to visit the new doctor, I could see the image of the previous MRI on the screen and in it was what looked like a mass in my femur above the knee. I inquired about it and was told it was a benign encondroma - nothing to worry about. Another MRI was ordered and when the doctor called with the results, he was no longer dismissing the mass as it had grown.

After months of watching it and finally a bone marrow biopsy I was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). It was assumed at the time of diagnosis that I was stage 4 as it was in the bone. Further testing showed that I had primary bone lymphoma and was actually stage 1E.

Three rounds of RCHOP, five weeks of radiation were done and more than two years later, I am still (THANKFULLY) in remission! I am immensely grateful for the research LLS does for patients like me and pray daily for the cure! Until then, I continue on and count my blessings daily!
