Target Audience

This activity is intended for nurses and social workers treating oncology patients. 

Description

Learn why experiencing cancer as an adolescent and young adult (AYA) is so unique from any other age, and how you can best meet the needs of this special population.  Each session will touch on a different topic related to AYA cancer. Sessions include:

  • Session 1: Why AYAs Are Unique
  • Session 2: Sexuality and Contraception for AYAs
  • Session 3: Fertility Preservation for AYAs
  • Session 4: AYA Survivorship Care and Survivorship Care Plans
  • Session 5: The Emotional Impact of Cancer on AYAs
  • Session 6: Resources for AYAs With Cancer

Educational Objectives 

At the conclusion of this 6-session series, attendees will be able to:  

  • Describe the unique challenges that AYAs with cancer experience
  • Identify key roles that social workers and nurses can play in providing support for AYAs with cancer
  • Describe interventions that social workers and nurses can provide to this population from diagnosis to survivorship/end of life
  • Describe and provide age-appropriate care to young adults with cancer

Continuing Education (CE) Information

Registered Nursing Credit Designation 
Approval for nurses has been obtained by the National Office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society under Provider Number CEP 5832 to award 9 continuing education contact hours through the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Social Work Credit Designation
The program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval #886838662-8356) for 9 continuing education contact hours for social workers.
Please be aware, the following states do not accept National CE Approval Programs: New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia.

There are no fees for participating in or receiving credit for this CE activity. To be eligible for CE credits, you must complete the entire course, including the introduction video, the six video lessons, the six post-tests with a score of 80% or higher, and the course evaluation.

Once you have completed the course, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you at the email address used for registration.

All certificates will provide continuing education credits for social workers, as a default. If you are a nurse and need a nursing continuing education certificate, a nursing certificate will be emailed to you from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society within 2-4 weeks of completing the course.
