chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
I was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in May 2022. It was a rough time with 10 blood transfusions, weeks in the hospital, and learning a new “normal”.
But that is not my story.
This journey has caused me to look at the positive things in life. I have learned that I have a large support team and have become closer to many of them. I have learned to open up and let people know how I’m feeling and to be able to ask for help. I have become better at staying in contact with friends and family and reconnected with friends from 30 years ago. I enjoy the little things more and look for the little things more.
When I was able to return to work, I went to a job that multiple doctors didn’t agree with, an attraction worker at a theme park. I come in close proximity to thousands of people a day, but since I work at a child-friendly attraction, seeing the look of joy on those kids’ faces makes it all worth it. Being around happiness gives me both emotional and physical strength to carry on.
