acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL)
I want to share the story of how my mom, who has acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) inspired me to fight for my dreams, overcome every obstacle, and create a new beauty brand.
My mom, who has been fighting ALL since May 2021, is one of the most brave and strong women I’ve ever known. She has done so much for me and others. She’s now fighting against this horrible disease which makes her feel sick every day with fever, nausea, and fatigue. Unfortunately, she’s not able to enjoy her days like she used to. Despite these terrible days, there are some days when she feels great and wants to enjoy life. One day, while trying makeup on with my mom, I was reminded how makeup could make you feel better no matter what you’re going through. During those moments, my mom enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror. That’s when I realized the enormous impact makeup could have on women regardless of their health or any other circumstance they go through daily. It was then that I decided to start Chic Allie, a cosmetic brand, to make women feel good about themselves and, at the same time, support all women fighting cancer.
My mom was with me during the entire process of creating this brand. The best part of Chic Allie is that a percentage of the sales goes to women with cancer. Of course, I started with my mom, and I am planning to continue helping others. Me, my mom, my family have been going through many ups and downs in the past years, so I know what many women need in many ways, from motivational support to financial support.
My mom is about to have her last chemotherapy next week. I can’t wait for her to feel better and be able to travel around the country.
We need to support each other. Having cancer is not easy for the patient and family. As a caregiver, I have gone through difficult times. Communication is the key. Each patient needs to have multiple caregivers as it is very difficult for one person. It is always good to talk to a counselor or someone that provides support. Life changes in a second, so it is important to live life at its best and love everyone around you.
