Meet the Researcher: Charlene Liao, PhD

Recently, we caught up with Charlene Liao, Ph.D., Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Immune-Onc Therapeutics, a new LLS Therapy Acceleration Program® (LLS TAP) partner.
Meet The Researcher: Dr. Christopher R. Flowers
In this Q&A, we are highlighting Dr. Christopher R. Flowers, MD, chair of Lymphoma and Myeloma at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and LLS National Board Member. Later this week, Dr. Flowers will be speaking on a timely panel about diversity in hematology clinical trials at AACR 2021.
Meet The Researcher: Dr. Rayne Rouce
To commemorate Black History Month, LLS is highlighting exceptional clinicians and healthcare professionals throughout the month of February. Dr. Rayne Rouce is a physician at Texas Children's Cancer Center where she is a member of the Leukemia/Lymphoma/Bone Marrow Transplant/Stem Cell Transplant Program. Dr. Rouce is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Meet the Researcher: Maria Figueroa, MD
Dr. Maria “Ken” Figueroa, Associate Professor at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System, is focused on an exciting area of research called epigenetics. Epigenetics refers to chemical modifications that regulate (switch on and off) gene activity. With support from LLS, Dr. Figueroa is studying how the epigenetic changes that occur as people age may contribute to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other blood cancers.
Meet the Researcher: Malathy Shanmugam, PhD, MS
Malathy Shanmugam, PhD, MS, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, is at the forefront of finding new treatments and cures for myeloma. With support from LLS, Dr. Shanmugam is researching an innovative targeted therapy called venetoclax, which is showing promise in multiple myeloma and has proven to be a game changer for some patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia.
Meet the Researcher: Omar Abdel-Wahab, MD
Dr. Abdel-Wahab of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center focuses on an area of research called epigenetics – chemical modifications that regulate (switch on and off) gene activity. He is studying how these processes drive the development of acute myeloid leukemia and other blood cancers. He currently holds a Career Development Program grant from LLS, a program that supports scientists earlier in their careers.
