Feeling uncertain? Start here.

By The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society | March 19, 2025

A blood cancer diagnosis changes your center of gravity. Your or a loved one’s health, and future, is suddenly up in the air. Uncertain. And when outside factors keep you and your family from accessing important care, it can be hard to pivot or plan ahead.

While we can’t control every outcome, one thing doesn't change: if blood cancer affects you, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is here for you.

Whether you’ve been diagnosed, or you know or care for someone who has, you can rely on our resources—and we have many! We do all kinds of work, in your community as well as on state and national levels, to try and make your life a little easier.

So, if you’re looking for an anchor in uncertain times, start here.

If you need information or support:

There’s a lot to take in with a blood cancer diagnosis: medical realities, treatment options, and the sheer emotions that come with a massive change in your life. Seeking out information that’s accurate, and the support you need, is crucial.

  • Get personalized guidance: Our Information Specialists can help you understand your diagnosis and treatment options, as well as guide you through challenges that may come up during treatment or in survivorship.

  • Find community near you: Connecting with people who might share some of your experiences can be a relief. LLS has almost 100 support groups across the country meeting either in-person or virtually.

  • Connect with your peers online: LLS Community is an online gathering place for people with blood cancer, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. You can talk to other people with your diagnosis, ask a blood cancer expert a question, get support, and much more.

  • Talk to someone who gets it: Navigating blood cancer can feel isolating. Through our Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection® Program, you can be matched to a trained volunteer with similar experiences to yours—whether you’re diagnosed or a caregiver.

If you’re wondering about accessing or affording care:

We know cancer care can put a heavy financial burden on many patients and their families, and for that reason and others, care is sometimes harder to access.

  • Get resources on medical debt: Our Medical Debt Case Managers can work with you to find ways to reduce your medical debt. Go ahead and apply—it's free.

  • Access clinical trials: Our Clinical Trial Nurse Navigators can talk to you about clinical trials and other treatment options specific to your cancer and unique situation, personally guiding you through the entire clinical trial process.

If you’re worried about healthcare coverage:

We know health insurance can be confusing. LLS Information Specialists, can answer questions you might have about health insurance and direct you to resources that can help you understand your coverage and your options.

The LLS Medical Debt Case Management Program can also help you enroll in all types of insurance—including Medicaid, Medicare, Marketplace plans, and employer-sponsored health coverage—and navigate your benefits.

Meanwhile, LLS is co-leading a national coalition of patient advocacy groups to prevent damaging cuts to Medicaid, which provides coverage to more than 70 million Americans. LLS is also working hard at the state level to advocate laws that expand Medicaid coverage and protect blood cancer patients from medical debt.

If you want to help people with blood cancer:

If you're at a point where you can and want to give back—to offer your time and your passion to help us make progress faster, for more patients and survivors—you're in the right place! LLS has plenty of ways for you to get involved.

  • Join our advocates across the country: Our advocacy efforts focus on championing laws that make blood cancer care more affordable and accessible. That means lowering treatment costs, making clinical trials available, advocating for kids with blood cancer, and much more

  • Become a volunteer: LLS volunteers show up all over the country so that we can help as many people affected by blood cancer as possible. As a volunteer, you can help lead LLS events, represent our mission, and give time to your local community. Many companies also offer volunteer grants to employees who give their time to a cause!

  • Join an LLS fundraiser: Come together with other people who want to end blood cancer and help LLS keep doing our lifesaving work! You can join community events like Light The Night and Big Climb, athletic challenges like marathons and climbs, and many more.

In other words: we’re not going anywhere.

If blood cancer is a part of your life, you have a place at LLS. You have a community to lean on and access to resources you can trust. We know all too well that living with blood cancer often comes with sudden shifts and challenges, and we’re here to help.
