Rachel Mersfelder is a medical student at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, aspiring to become a pediatric oncologist. Her passion for this field was initially inspired by her sibling’s battle with pediatric leukemia. Originally from Massachusetts, Rachel earned her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. During her undergraduate years, she volunteered in the myelosuppression unit at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, an experience that solidified her commitment to working with children affected by cancer.
Since entering medical school, Rachel has conducted research on osteosarcoma in children and young adults under the mentorship of Dr. Scott Borinstein. Her long-term goal is to contribute to treatment advancements as a physician-scientist in pediatric oncology. Rachel is profoundly grateful to LLS for the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in cancer research, which will undoubtedly support her future practice.
