Dr. Bylund is Professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics and a member of the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC). She is a healthcare communication scientist who has been conducting research about cancer clinical trials for more than 15 years. Across this time, she has been PI or collaborator on eight grant funded projects on communication about cancer clinical trial recruitment across the cancer continuum – from time of referral through treatment decision making for trials, including Phase 1 trials. Dr. Bylund is currently funded as PI on two clinical trial communication focused grants. First, she is leading an online, interactive training intervention for primary care providers about quality cancer referrals, including clinical trials. We plan to adapt this intervention in the current proposal. Second, she is leading a grant focused on communication training about cancer clinical trials for hematology oncology fellows (co-I Dr. Staras). Dr. Bylund and Dr. Staras have collaborated for the past six years on several grant funded projects.
