Position Title: Pennies for Patients Program Intern - Unpaid
Location: Long Island Chapter - Hauppauge, NY
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is seeking an intern to assist with implementing activities associated with its Pennies for Patients campaign. The ideal intern will be one who wants to work in schools and with students, have a working knowledge of database and Social Media maintenance, and managing logistics for various projects.
Job Description:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients Program is a community service project that allow students to help in the fight against cancer. The goal of the program is show students that they can make a difference in the lives of others. During a three week period in January, February or March students learn about blood cancers while collecting funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The intern will work at the Long Island Chapter in Hauppauge, NY, where he/she will perform diverse projects and activities for the Pennies Program to support and enhance income production.
Position Responsibilities:
- Administers select on-going programs and/or special projects (e.g. prize distribution, volunteer coordination, event logistics coordination, etc.)
- Provides administrative and clerical support for Pennies for Patients including but not limited to calling schools and assisting with packing and shipping materials.
- Maintains assigned office, program and event records, files, and databases.
- Feels comfortable with speaking in large crowds and would be comfortable public speaking at kickoff assemblies.
- Maintains a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its programs to address them.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office and database management skills
- Extremely comfortable with public speaking
- Tech savvy, i.e. eMarketing, Facebook, and Twitter
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Strong interpersonal skills and judgment
- Professional demeanor
- Must be able to dedicate 2-3 days a week. Work hours and days are flexible in order to work around class schedules.
This internship is unpaid - potential for class credit is available pending school approval.
