Inspiring the Next Generation of Student Leaders in the Fight Against Cancer
School-based Kiwanis clubs are helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fund research through the Pennies for Patients Program
Did you know that close to 900,000 students across Greater Los Angeles are helping to find a cure for cancer? These K-12 students have raised more than $1M this school year as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student Series program. We are so proud of our students, teachers, and families for helping us bring hope to individuals battling leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin's disease.
We've been inspired by the service clubs that are strong and active at so many schools. The Kiwanis Builders Club at St. Bede the Venerable, a 180 student parochial school in La Canada, raised nearly $2,300 through the Pennies for Patients campaign. The 68 members of the Kiwanis Kids Club at Weathersfield Elementary in Thousand Oaks rallied their classmates to raise more than $1,100.
"The commitment to service at schools like St. Bede and Weathersfield is such an inspiration. The children that participate in service clubs are dedicated to improving their communities and helping those in need. We are grateful for the generosity of these schools for going above and beyond in helping us fight cancer. You are our heroes!" said Shannon Sullivan, Executive Director of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's California Southland Chapter.
