MaKayla

acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)

I am the mother of MaKayla. MaKayla found out on September 21, 2023, that she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood, Indiana. During the next three and a half months, MaKayla underwent treatment and several procedures. I cannot begin to explain the faith and strength my daughter had during this process. The oncologists, nurses, and staff were tremendous. We couldn't have asked for better care for her than what we were given. Our daughter maintained a selfless attitude, continued to laugh and joke with anyone in her presence, and impacted those around her. MaKayla passed on January 7, 2024, at 23 years of age. Makayla was an LPN studying for her RN and had been made part of a sorority on September 11, 2023, to help cancer patients. She had worked at the Hospice House in Louisville, Kentucky, and had been an in-home healthcare nurse. She had recently been working at a clinic in Bedford, Indiana. She had started back to school to gain her RN and was recognized in all 50 states.

What we have seen and witnessed is her impact on so many lives around us. She was a true shining light to so many, and her loss was great.
