Lisa

acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

My name is Lisa, I am 50 years old. On March 5, 2012, my life forever changed. I went from being Lisa, wife to John, mother to Tristan (now 14), and stepmother to John (now 35) to Lisa, acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient.

From March 6, 2012, until October 2013, I spent numerous weeks, sometimes a month at a time, in and out of the hospital receiving intensive chemotherapy, bone marrow tests, blood count checks, and numerous transfusions of blood and platelets. My family and friends stood by my side and helped me remain positive, build my strength, got me to doctors’ appointments, cared for my son, and helped me run my household until I was able to return to work full time.

It was not an easy journey, and I still take each day as it comes, but during all of this, I took comfort in saying I found:

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
