My name is Meghan, and I am 33, almost 34 years old. In September 2016, I was diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) secondary to my brain cancer treatment. I noticed a lot of bruising on my legs along with occasional nose and gum bleeding. My oncologist did a bone marrow biopsy, and I was given the news the next day that I had CMML. The only option was a stem cell transplant. My sisters were tested, but they were not a perfect match, so I was put on Be the Match. I had three perfect matches, and in January 2017, I received my stem cell transplant at the University of Michigan Hospital. I was fortunate to only be in the hospital for a month and then sent home for my 100-day isolation. I reacted very well to the transplant and didn't have severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). I am doing well after almost seven years. I go to my local doctor every six months for a check-up. I am very blessed and grateful for my donor and the smooth experience I had.
